Introduction: Ganoderma (Ganoderma lucidium) is a basidiomycete and belongs to the Ganodermataceae family. China produces the largest amount of this mushroom and different varieties of it are grown in China. This mushroom is one of the most popular medicinal mushrooms in Asian countries, which has been the subject of many modern biochemical and medicinal studies in the last 30 years. It is mentioned in old traditional medicine texts that this mushroom can increase health and longevity due to its many bioactive compounds. The fruiting body, cultivated mycelium and spores of Ganoderma have medicinal properties.
Major Bioactive Constituents: Ganoderma metabolites mainly include polysaccharides (beta-glucans), triterpenoids (ganoderic acid, ganoderol), nucleotides, sterols, steroids, fatty acids, peptides, enzymes (metalloprotease, nucleosidase), essential elements and minerals.
